Why should I fast? Are you hungry for more of God? Do you want to hear God's voice more clearly, and seek His direction for your life? Do you have a desire to see God’s presence and His favor in your life and in your church? Fasting is a physical reminder of our great need of the Lord.
Jesus says in Matthew 7:7, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be open.”
What is the purpose of fasting? It's good to begin a fast with certain prayer needs and requests in mind. Just be aware that the most significant work God does is not always turning a situation around or fulfilling a long-waited for desire, but instead changing our hearts so that we see things through His perspective.
The heart behind fasting is not to be religious – as if our good works would earn us something from God – but instead to be reminded that it's Jesus who satisfies our every need with himself.
